Poisoned Pen Press typically publishes thirty-six new hardcover mysteries per year, thirty-six new large type editions of those hardcovers, and between thirty and forty new trade paperback editions of previously published hardcovers. Audio books of new titles are produced by Blackstone Audio. Poisoned Pen Press was founded in by Barbara G. Peters , Robert Rosenwald , and their daughter, Susan Malling. Peters, who had founded Scottsdale Arizona's 'The Poisoned Pen, A Mystery Bookstore' a decade ago, sees consolidations in the publishing industry as a threat to cultural diversity and to the survival of the independent bookstore.

In the latest example of Wattpad teaming with trade publishers, the online writing community is entering into a multifaceted partnership with Sourcebooks to both publish Wattpad writers through the Sourcebooks Fire YA imprint, and market Sourcebook authors on the site. The new partnership is one of the broadest and most far reaching agreements Wattpad has entered into with a traditional publishing house. Over the last year Wattpad, which attracts more than 16 million visitors every month, has become a magnet for publishers and literary agents looking for new writers as well as using the site as a marketing platform. Wattpad material acquired by Sourcebooks will remain on Wattpad in its original form, though the books will be edited with new chapters and other added material and produced by Sourcebooks for general bookstore distribution. Both titles have launched Fan Funding campaigns Sourcebooks is using the Fan Funding efforts to drive pre-orders of the books that encourage fans to contribute to the jacket design of the books, name characters and more. Sourcebooks will also become the sponsor of the Watty Awards, Wattpads annual awards presentation to top Wattpad writers.
